Wednesday 14th April - Breakfast together before loading the bags onto the bus. Quick stroll around town for some last minute shopping and off to the airport to go back to Wellington. The Force rugby team were at the airport with us and Mitchell B found a new best mate in Matt Dunning. They both discussed what it is like to be a winger in a front rowers body. Bumpy flight out of Queenstown and into Wellington had a few boys looking slightly green. Bus out to St Pats Silverstream in Upper Hutt to meet the billets who will be hosting the touring players for 2 nights.
Tuesday 13th April - 7.30am meeting out the front of the Hotel for a jog down to the Queenstown oval in the rain for training. A casual jog back to the hotel became a little competitive with a sprint up the steep hill and Declan S being embarrassed by finishing a distant third to Mr Wisemantel and Mr Ellwood. 9am breakfast before heading up the mountain on the Gondolas. At the top of the mountain (Bob's Peak), the touring squad drove down the 880m luge track with some minor collisions and one or two miss directed luge sleds into walls. Back down into town for an afternoon of free time. Watched the Western Force training session and met some of the players. Kangaroo Court was held in the hotel and then a team dinner.
Monday 12th April - The impressive buffet was back for breakfast before the morning departure for Queenstown. Jumped on the "Big Red" Shotover jet boats to speed our way up and down the Shotover River. 20 minutes of jet boating, coming centimeters from cliff faces and 360 degree spins at high speed. Great fun was had by all the boys and then on to Queenstown to check into the Hotel and another buffet team dinner.
Sunday 11th April - 6.45am departure for Mt Cook. Split the tour group into 3 rubber ducky boats to explore the Tasman Glacier from Tasman Lake. Got to rip off pieces of ice from the icebergs and have a taste of the 500 year old ice. Checked into our accommodation at the Hermitage which is at the base of Mt Cook. After a quick look through the Sir Edmund Hillary museum, the boys demolished the impressive buffet dinner before a relaxing night in rooms with views of Mt Cook from each balcony.
Saturday 10th April - Two very exciting games Vs St Andrew's. 2nds lost 25-27, having been held up over the line at the end of the game. 1sts played much better compared to game against St Pat's. A high scoring affair saw St Andrew's win 33-32. Went to AMI Stadium on Saturday night - very exciting game with the Waratah's losing 20-13
Friday 9th April - Traveled from Wellington to Christchurch. Arrived at St Andrew's College for a quick training run then headed to AMI Stadium to meet the Waratah's. Quiet night in the boarding house on Friday night. A feature of the night was the Kangaroo Court, with Judge Calderan and chief prosecutor Raso ensuring all tour misdeamours were punished.
Thursday 8th April - Game 1 for both the 1st XV and 2nd XV were played today in beautiful conditions at Kilburnie - the home ground of St Patrick's College Wellington. Although Oakhill lost both games, each game was played with tremendous enthusiasm and spirit.
2nd XV lost 7-40. Try to Blake E. Conv Nick B.
Down 16-0 at half time, the seconds fought hard in the 2nd half to score the first try . This was as close as the Oakhill 2nds got to the try line, with St Pat's too big and strong for the Oakhill team. Well done to Nick B who received the man of the match from St Pat's.
1st XV lost 20-48. Tries to James H (2), Declan S and Michael T.
Similar to the 2nds game, the St Pat's 1st XV were much bigger than their Oakhill counter parts and controlled the game from the kick off. Half time score 27-0 to St Pat's. Running with the breeze in the second half, Oakhill managed to score 4 excellent tries through the backs. Michael T received a ball as man of the match.
Tonight all players will spend the night at leisure with their billets, to be dropped at the airport tomorrow for an 12noon flight. Tomorrow afternoon we will watch the Waratah's train then transfer to our accommodation for two nights (St Andrew's College Christchurch).
No major injuries to report - Dom G sprained ankle. Some minor bumps and bruises
Wednesday 7th April - Breakfast at 9am followed by a very informative trip through the TePapa Centre in Wellington. Non eventful lunch in town followed by a brief tour of Wellington.
Arrived at St Patrick's College Kilburnie at 1.30pm - brief training run in preparation for first games tomorrow. 2nd XV to kick off at 12noon, followed by 1st XV at 1.30pm. Results to be posted as soon as possible. All boys in great spirits. Met billets after training and traveled home with each family.
Tuesday 6th April - A trouble free flight had us landing in Wellington 20 minutes earlier than expected. Met driver (Colin) at the airport and transferred to the Abel Tasman Hotel for one night.
